Throughout some tumultuous gameweeks in which landmark injuries contrived with managerial unpredictability, we brought you some top notch picks, along with some [clears throat] not quite so top notch picks.
Ones We Got Right
Coleman
This one's easy peasy but, well, we still told you so. Coleman is now arguably the most important asset in the whole fantasy league. He provides better value than any other players, including Suarez and Ramsey so should be straight on the team sheet when you play your wildcard.
Silva
With his yellow card suspension out of the way now, Silva's an even better prospect. Admittedly we told you to transfer him in when he was still walking the suspension tightrope but he was still a good shout. He's great captain material, especially if City are at home, and with Aguero still out for a few weeks is their most potent threat.
Adebayor
Having been bored sideways by my amateur (and much abridged) match report of the Spurs v United game, my girlfriend asked me to describe Emanuel Adebayor. "Well", I pondered, clawing aimlessly for the name of a footballer whom she would recognise, "you know Lionel Messi? The little Argentinian one with all the silky skills?" "Yes" - she pretended to know. "Well, he's almost nothing like that." Gangly and frustrating but imminently explosive, Adebayor has rapidly proved himself to be a player most Premiership managers would want in their squad of 23. Now he has shown that he can be fantasy relevant too. Sherwood has started him in every game - cup and league - since taking over and if you took a punt on him a few weeks ago, you're probably licking your chops at the prospect of Palace, Swansea, Man City (who concede buckets away) and Hull in his next four games.
Don't be afraid to play Ade against his old club - he sure ain't.
Lennon
Many Spurs fans will have watched the FA Cup tie hoping they would somehow win the game but be eliminated from the competition. The main aim, however was to end the game unscathed by injuries or suspensions. If you are a Lennon owner, you too may have been unsettled by his starting role. Having only just recovered from an abdominal problem for the Stoke game (I told him not to try that Marilyn Manson thing), he was risked in a fiery encounter at the Emirates. Nevertheless, Tottenham coverage could prove important now that Sherwood has them firing on all cylinders so Lennon's 14 pts in his last two games are a happy improvement from his early season form. If he can stay fit, his pace will be a vital weapon in the Tottenham counter-attack.
Aaron Lennon - famously never a pencil
Walcott
Admittedly this is now slightly moot given his season-ending injury but we promised you fireworks and he did indeed put on a display to put the Thames New Year celebrations to shame. 3 goals, an assist and 6 BPs mean he racked up 32 pts over the last six weeks, making him a much better option than Suarez for that period. The fact that Wenger used him as a lone striker in the FA Cup against Spurs is either indicative that Arsenal need another striker or that his potency as an attacking option is something The Gunners would have looked to utilise greatly in the coming months - or both. We can't help it he got hurt. We really can't.
Ones We Got Wrong
Wellbeck
Danny boy has 5 goals and 40 pts in the last 5 weeks and has shown immense flashes of quality and composure but with RVP now due to return in GW 21, we haven't just missed the boat - we're at the wrong bloody port. Arguably the selection security was never really there and Moyes is reliably unreliable but we probably should have at least flagged him up as an option for you lovely people. Soz!
Tottenham Defenders
In particular we touted Kyle Walker and Michael Dawson. Only the one recent clean sheet (against Stoke in GW 19) is a poor return if you picked one of these guys up. Walker still shows attacking promise, and had a handy assist against West Brom but Sherwood is relying on goals, not defensive stoutness to propel Spurs up the league table so forget it - just forget it, OK?
Manchester United Defenders
We did warn you that pricey defenders aren't just un-faconnable this season, but are, rather, not worth the computer screen you're looking at them on (don't think about that one too hard - it doesn't work). Still, it was reckless and down right rude to suggest you put any of these mugginses in your team, with the possible exception of Evra, who got MOTM against Norwich in their only clean sheet of the past 4 weeks.
Jury's Out
Fernandinho
We spun you a yarn about how this chap was too-defensive minded to put up the fantasy points. His two goals against Arsenal were a flash in the pan, we told you. Well another accomplished finish against Swansea has us wondering. He may not be the bust we predicted but we maintain there are better options out there for Man City mids - and his 1.8% FPL ownership would appear to corroborate that.
